The Flower Festival in Tao Đàn Park in 2015

Another Lunar New Year is coming, Year of Goat. This year there was a real big mess in Sài Gòn due to the mega construction site right in the heart of the city, so the usual annual Flower Street moved to another place. To be honest I didn't find it, the Flower Street, interesting, as every year they repeat almost the same concept, the same display ideas...Anyway let's wait until next year, when we have our very first New Square, the new pedestrian quarter, right in the centre of Saigon.

This little cute girl was confusing - to look at his daddy's camera or at mine...

Another remarkable annual event for Lunar New Year is the Floral Festival in Tao Đàn Park. What I like the most here was the Bonsai exhibition, the Frangipani collection...they change every year. It's something really worth to admire, as you feel the passion, the efforts, the creativity from the artists by creating the incredible beauty.

The Bonsai collection

Look at the trunk of this large "Paper Flower" (Bougainvillea) bonsai...

Someone told me that the real good Bonsai master, only looking at the trunk, could tell how old is the bonsai...Some days ago, not far from my house, I saw another big bonsai of this "Paper Flower" in very nice cascade style, but that trunk was nothing, compared to this one. They sold it at 1000 USD. This one surely not for sale.

It's a "huge" bonsai of tamarin tree...

Here's a better shot of its trunk ...and look at the tamarin, full of it

But this one could be a King, I was told someone offered 100k of USD but failed ...

A close-up shot at this amazing upright style bonsai - from the trunk to the branches...

Another upright but informal style flowering bonsai...

or this one, really outstanding among others.

Typical Vietnamese medium size living landscape bonsai (hòn non bộ)

The large bonsai with root-over-rock style and living landscape...

I'm not sure but this bonsai could be in the deadwood style when a deadwood preserved to a living bonsai. I can't imagine how long does it take the artist to create this kind of art - it requires not only the technique, the skill, but most important - the passion and the patience!

The miniature bonsai - around 20 cm height

The Frangipani collection
This year the collection of Frangipani seemed better - all still in their early bloom...Year after year, I never stop wondering and admiring how the artists-gardeners care about the trees and to make them flowering on time for Spring festive.
When I was kid I remember those big, tall Frangipani trees in my school's playing ground, their flower mostly in white-yellow or pink, the shape much simpler compared to what I saw in this park. Surprisingly beautiful!

The Golden Fish collection
Last year I saw for the first time the Golden Fish at this Festival. I was surprised when seeing the huge, almost a coconut size, very cute Golden Fish. I really want to ask the owner how can I get one or two...but he was not there.
Few months ago in the aquarium fish market in Chinatown one shop was selling big Golden Fish, imported from China. It was a very good price, so I decided to keep some in my aquarium. It was not easy at the beginning, they kept dying after few days, then few weeks but now I'm able to keep them for longer, but how to make them grow as big as here - another challenge!

Black Moor with telescope eyes, look small? Nope, they are big as an orange

Black Oranda with the headgrowth. This could be a rare breed.

Calico Oranda - different patterns on their fin.

                        Black Moor

                        Calico Goldfish (Tosakin?)

People
It's quite interesting when observing people surrounding us. You may feel the rhythm, the energy in our routine life. I saw this young artist sitting, patiently waiting for someone who would ask her to draw their portrait for little money, but unfortunately none of these street artists, was only two, allowed to do it in the park. I witnessed another young painter sent out from the park by a team of angered security men. I was wondering why? Let them staying in the park, providing the service to visitors, it could be only better for everyone. The mentality of some people here was incredible!

This young kid probably was too tired in the tropical heat, he just wanted to sit on the grass despite his dad's efforts to convince him to stand up...It took a while for a kid...

but finally the whole family continued to discover the park in the afternoon heat. Actually it was not that hot but understandably for those who is coming from a real cold winter's world.

                                     Lunch time!

Quite ton-sur-ton : hat and shirt!

Reading book in the park...I don't know whether we, Vietnamese, still have that habit or not...mostly spending hours and hours on the chairs in the coffee shop, chatting, doing something on the laptop...but reading book, especially in the park, seemed fading away.

After hours wandering around the Park, witnessed the beauty of the nature bent and shaped by our human will and force, some other incidents...I just want to use the photo that I took from the Flower Street early this morning, before the official opening, to end my post about another Tết in our life. I'd like to wish all of you, who follow my blog over the past few years - the prosperity, the health and the happiness.

Some comments that the female goats having no horns, means all goats here are male!?
