Papaya salad (gỏi đu đủ)

Papaya salad I'm talking about is not what you can find either in Thai or Viet restaurant - this is different and only on the street!
Since long time, this salad is the most favourite esp. for high school girls, students. Whenever you see a crowd of young people, mostly female, sitting on the street or on very small chairs along the pavement, holding small plastic plate, eating some white green "noodle" or trying to get the last drop of  brown sauce...that's extremely popular "snack" for young Vietnamese!

Papaya salad (or beef salad at some places)
This salad is a combination of green papaya, peanut, sweet & dark beef liver (sometime lung!), shreds of Vietnamese mint leaf and special sauce that makes sale very tasty! Sour, sweet, spicy, mint flavor...everything!

Like vinegar with garlic, chili, sweet ...all tastes are there! And if we mix well everything, it's simply irresistible dish !

Specially the sweet & dark liver, I thought it was beef meat but in fact it's the beef liver or lung!

At some other places, they call "beef salad" (gỏi bò)!
I like this dark, sweet stew beef liver very much but absolutely have no idea how to prepare it!
Probably some secret recipe which requires many ingredients!

In Hai Ba Trung street, opposite Le Van Tam park

If you want to try it, go to Hai Bà Trưng street, just opposite the public park Lê Văn Tám, you will see small stall with 2 or 3 mid-aged women, selling this special salad! 16,000 VND/ plate!

I'm sure you will like it!
